Norma Pfriem Breast Center Receives $25,000 Grant from Breast Cancer Alliance

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Norma Pfriem Breast Center, part of Smilow Cancer Hospital, will continue to provide breast cancer screening programs and support services to patients in need, thanks to a grant of $25,000 from the Breast Cancer Alliance. Fairfield County has one of the highest rates of breast cancer incidence in the state. Programs such as those at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center are vital to beating breast cancer locally.

In addition to providing financial assistance for screening and diagnostic services, the grant for $25,000 will help medically underserved women gain access to support services, such as support groups and counseling.

“These funds will provide much needed services to women without health insurance who cannot pay for screening and diagnostic tests and procedures on their own,” says Donna Twist, PhD, the Breast Center’s Executive Director.  “We are extremely grateful to the Breast Cancer Alliance for their continued support of our programs.”

The Breast Cancer Alliance was formed specifically to fund the efforts of organizations that provide compassionate care so women can go through treatment with the proper care and dignity.

Norma Pfriem Breast Center, part of Smilow Cancer Hospital, provides nearly 1,400 uninsured and underinsured women with financial assistance for patient care and educates over 5,000 women and girls about breast cancer risk each year.
