Local Nonprofit Gains National Attention

Bridgeport, Connecticut - Bridgeport Prospers, a local Collective Impact movement, has been recognized for its efforts to improve outcomes for kids, and is now eligible for the $20 million Cradle to Career Community Challenge. The StriveTogether network elevated Bridgeport Prospers to the “Sustaining Gateway” quality benchmark, paving the way for grant opportunities devoted to more equitable outcomes for children.

Bridgeport Prospers Executive Director Allison Logan commented: “I want to thank our many community partners and Bridgeport Prospers/UW team members for your support that helped to carry us to this major accomplishment.”

Gaining particular recognition is the “Baby Bundle,” a group of initiatives designed to ensure that all children are healthy and ready for preschool by age three. The “Baby Bundle work is creating some buzz,” noted StriveTogether Navigator Robert Harris. In fact, the Bridgeport Prospers work will be highlighted at the annual conference in Seattle in October.

This buzz is reaching other national organizations as well:

The challenge to improve outcomes is steep: Connecticut has one of the nation’s largest achievement gaps between students of low income and their better-off peers. But Bridgeport Prospers aims to change that.   Starting at the youngest ages, which lay the foundation for development that lasts a lifetime.

Bridgeport Prospers mission is to work collectively as a community of stakeholders to have a positive, measureable, and sustainable impact on outcomes for all children and families, from cradle to career. We focus on a set of seven common outcomes, from kindergarten readiness through high school graduation and career readiness. The initiative receives backbone support from the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County. Find out more at http://www.unitedwaycfc.org/bridgeportprospers
