Golf Tournament Benefits Norma Pfriem Breast Center

FAIRFIELD, CT – The August 2018 annual WPLR/Mike Lapitino Golf Classic raised $7,500 for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center’s programs for women in need.  The tournament, hosted by WPLR afternoon host Mike Lapitino, has been supporting the Breast Center for sixteen years, raising over $200,000 in total.

Lapitino was inspired to organize the tournament by a fellow staff member whose wife had breast cancer.  

“We’re so fortunate to have Mike’s loyal support,” says Dr. Donna Twist, Ph.D., Executive Director, Norma Pfriem Breast Center. “One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. We want to be able to help every woman who comes to us, regardless of her insurance status. Events, like the golf tournament, make that possible.”    

Since 2010, the tournament has been held at Oxford Greens in Oxford, named one of the best courses in Connecticut by Golfweek.  The day’s activities include a putting contest, silent auction and raffle, and the 18-hole golf tournament, followed by dinner and music.  

Part of Bridgeport Hospital and the Yale New Haven Health, Norma Pfriem Breast Center has served more than 30,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999. One of only 500 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital, Fairfield and Trumbull locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, and genetic risk assessment as well as opportunities to participate in clinical trials. The breast center office at 111 Beach Road in Fairfield also provides comprehensive women’s wellness services, including nutrition counseling, massage and Reiki therapy, wig and prosthesis fitting, counseling, yoga, Pilates, naturopathic medicine, and other patient support activities.
