Solarize Fairfield to Host Free Solar Workshop at St. Pius X Church, Jan. 14

Fairfield, CT — Solarize Fairfield is hosting a solar workshop at St. Pius X Church on Sunday, January 14th, as part of the overall town-supported Solarize Fairfield campaign.

The free public event will take place at 1 pm after the noon Mass in the Community Room at St. Pius, 834 Brookside Drive in Fairfield. At the workshop, homeowners can learn about the opportunity to install solar panels on their homes now at special discounted pricing under the Solarize Fairfield program.

The workshop is particularly timely since United Illuminating residential electricity generation rates have increased 27% as of this month – and the ability to secure some protection against future utility rate increases is one of solar’s most appealing benefits.

The solar workshop also coincides with the recent solar installation on the St. Pius Rectory and plans to install solar panels on the Religious Education Center this spring, allowing St. Pius to reduce overall electricity costs across its campus. The Rectory is a 7.685 kW DC system, using (24) 320-watt panels. The school is projected to be a 100.16 kW DC system, using (313) 320-watt panels.

“In a time when we are increasingly aware of the impact of our choices and actions on the environment, solar energy is one small way we, as a parish community, can make a difference,” remarks Father Sam Kuchuba. “Pope Francis has issued a clear call for all people to be concerned for our common home. Going solar, for our parish, is not only good financial stewardship, it is also good stewardship of the world God has entrusted to us.”

Solarize Fairfield is a coordinated effort across the community, supported by the Town of Fairfield. With educational workshops and discounted pricing for people who live, work and worship in Fairfield through February 22, 2018, this is an excellent way for homeowners to learn about and benefit from solar.

Interested residents can arrange for a free solar evaluation of their home and learn about their potential energy savings by visiting SolarizeCT.com/Fairfield.  For more information, call Chamae Mejias, Community Outreach Organizer, at 860-331-1041.
