Pequot Library Presents One-Woman Play, March 8

Southport, CT – Celebrate International Women’s Day at Pequot Library on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. with critically acclaimed writer and performer Nancy Palmento Schuler as she presents her one-woman play Three Roads, Three Women. This performance is part of Pequot Library’s “Storytellers” series and explores the story of three very different women and their individual journeys to Connecticut. Advanced tickets online at pequotlibrary.org are $30 for adults and $20 for seniors/students. Tickets at the door are $40 for adults and $30 for seniors/students.

World-renowned feminist, journalist, and activist Gloria Steinem once said, “The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” Over the course of the evening guests will meet Teresa Gargiulo Palmento, who was born in Italy in 1888 and immigrated to the United States at the age of 18; Junie Harlow, who grew up on the Upper East Side in New York during the 1920s and summered in Middlebury throughout her youth; and Ruth Jeffers, an African-American woman born in the 1940s in North Carolina. All three narratives are based on actual facts and people, although some names have been changed.

Nancy Palmento Schuler was born and raised in Waterbury and has lived in Litchfield for the past 18 years with her husband, Ed. It is because of her background that she is able to bring alive the story of three women who moved to the Waterbury area during different times and for very different reasons.

At age 69, Schuler has been transitioning to writing and acting. Her story about Teresa, her Italian immigrant grandmother, has been presented at the New York Public Library Equity Theater and the Manhattan Repertory Theatre. She has also performed at the Osher Life Long Learning at the University of Connecticut, (UCONN), the Silas Bronson Library, Shakesperience Productions, the Mattatuck Museum, and many community centers and libraries in Connecticut. Her latest play, The Process is a trilogy about aging. She will be conducting an acting class at the Osher Lifelong Institute beginning in March.
