Fairfield County Chorale Presents J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor on May 12th

Norwalk, CT - The Fairfield County Chorale will conclude its 55th season with J.S. Bach's sacred masterwork Mass in B minor Saturday, May 12 at 7:30pm in Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door, and $5 for students.

The concert, conducted by music director David Rosenmeyer, features the 100+ voices of the Fairfield County Chorale, the Fairfield County Chorale Orchestra, and four dazzling young soloists: soprano Sarah Hawkey, mezzo soprano Kate Maroney, tenor Charles Sy, and baritone Elijah Blaisdel.

Bach's monumental Mass in B minor is widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of classical music. It was never performed in its entirety during Bach's lifetime; the first documented complete performance took place in 1859.

“This work represents Bach at the height of his musical power," said Rosenmeyer. "A collection of movements of diverse styles, the work interweaves aria with dance, Gregorian chant with choral fugue. Similarly, the work fuses Bach's religious inspiration and his fascination with numerical symbolism."

“The challenge," he continues, "will be to honor one of the greatest composers by making this beloved work live and breathe, to express the detail in each phrase and movement while communicating the arc of the work as a whole. That is exciting for me, the Chorale, and hopefully the audience.”

Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door and $5 for students. Group rates are available on request. Tickets are available from chorale members, on the FCC website, or by phone.
