Fairfield, CT: The entire running community in Southeastern Connecticut comes alive next weekend at Jennings Beach in Fairfield. With three great road races, the event features a 5K & Lil’ Stags Kids Fun Run on June 2 and the signature half marathon on June 3.
On Saturday, June 2 beginning at 8:00am, nearly 1,500 runners have signed up to run the fast & flat shoreline 5K (3.1 miles). Event organizers have added prize money to the 5K, bringing some of the fastest 5K runners in the state to the race. For the first time, the event is pleased to have Achilles athletes competing in the race! Achilles connects able-bodied volunteers and disabled runners. These athletes train together and compete in some of the country’s best road races.
The 5K will be followed by the Lil’ Stags Kids Fun Run, hosted by Fairfield University. Children get to meet Lucas the Stag, Fairfield University’s mascot, and run the ½ mile fun run. All children receive a t-shirt, race bib and go through the same finish line as adult runners. Children receive a ribbon of accomplishment and can have their face painted on the beach! Fairfield University has graciously covered the entry fee for Fairfield residents.
Finally, on Sunday, June 3, we kick off the signature half marathon at Jennings Beach. The scenic half marathon course, traversing the shorelines of Fairfield, Southport & Westport, has been improved to include more scenery, bands & cheer groups. Over 2,000 runners have already registered!
The races take place at Jennings Beach in Fairfield. Both days offer beach parties following the races! All runners are invited to enjoy live music, vendors, loaves of bread, pizza, fruit, refreshments & awards ceremony. Participants are encouraged to register early! The event is limited to 4,000 entrants in the half marathon and 2,000 in the 5K. For event information or to register, visit www.fairfieldhalf.org or email maggie@jbsports.com.
