Fairfield to Host Transit-Oriented Development Public Meeting, June 26

Fairfield, CT - The Fairfield Town Plan and Zoning Commission, in partnership with the Fairfield Economic Development Commission, invite members of the community to attend a public meeting concerning transit-oriented development on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Registration information can be found at https://todpublicmeeting.eventbrite.com.

The meeting, which will officially kick off a planning study to examine transit-oriented development opportunities surrounding the Fairfield Metro and downtown train stations, will take place at Penfield Pavilion, located at 323 Fairfield Beach Road in Fairfield. The program will be preceded by an open house beginning at 7:00 pm. The formal presentation will begin at 7:30 pm and will be followed by an interactive group discussion. The meeting is expected to conclude by 9:30 pm.

Transit-Oriented Development or “TOD” refers to real estate development clustered near transit stations on blocks and streets that are designed for convenient, safe walking between transit and a variety of destinations. Fairfield’s zoning and related development policies, as well as its infrastructure investments, influence the characteristics of development and street environments. This study is intended to recommend potential updates to Town policies that could better match these characteristics with community goals.

The Fairfield TOD Study’s recommendations will emerge from a combination of community input and technical analysis. A series of public meetings and workshops are expected to be held over the course of the next eight months to give the community the opportunity to share their views and provide input into the process.

The study is being funded by a grant from the CT Department of Community & Economic Development.
