Fun fact: most of the ferns we see today first appeared about 45 million years ago—during the age of the dinosaurs. If you’d like to learn much more about ferns, join botanist Jim Cortina at the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield for a workshop devoted to one of the oldest groups of plants on earth. Learn about ferns common to Connecticut and their life cycle. Use identification keys and magnifying loops to identify ferns on display. Time permitting, we’ll enjoy a shady fern walk in the Larsen Sanctuary.
The workshop is held rain or shine at the Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Pre-registration required. To sign up or get more information, visit:https://www.ctaudubon.org/fairfield-home/, or call 203-259-6305 ext. 109.
