The artists will talk at 4 pm. The show runs from August 29 to September 30 and can be viewed every afternoon at 70 Sanford Street in Fairfield. See www.artplacegallery.org or call 203-292-8328.

FLORENCE ZOLAN
Florence is a founding member of Art/Place. Her art training was at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, Pratt Manhattan Graphic Center and The New School. She received a MFA at Hunter College and taught at the Museum of Modern Art as well as at a school in New Rochelle, NY. Florence is an artist member of Silvermine Guild, the Surface Design Association, the Westport Artists Collective and the curatorial committee of the Kershner Gallery in the Fairfield Public Library. She has exhibited statewide and her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the US.

She says, “My work is about relationships. They are actual and implied in the arrangements of form, object and color. Some of the prints, collagraphs, etchings or a partial portion of a work are individually transformed in the transition into the completed work. I explore the contrast of a smooth surface against rough, patterns next to solids and soft edges next to sharp. I enjoy working in different media. Collage, pastel, various forms of printmaking and usually a combination of these plus random objects are often used. The transition process from the same print to each unique expression is a creative pleasure.”

SANDRA MEAGHER
Sandra resides in Rowayton, CT and maintains a studio in Port Chester, NY. She graduated from Smith College, and attended art classes at the Art Students League in New York and Silvermine in New Canaan. Her memberships include Silvermine Guild, Art/Place Gallery, the Westport Artists Collective, the Katonah Museum and the Rowayton Arts Center.

Primarily known for her drawings in charcoal, she also engages in painting, photography, video and poetry. She is the author of “Nora”, a book of 12 drawings and three poems. She has had more than 15 one-person shows and participated in many juried and invitational exhibitions. Her installation took first prize at a Katonah Museum juried show.

Sandy says, "Sleep and dreams have been a recurring theme in my work. This is where the improbable happens. Drawings and paintings with illusive imagery are sometimes dreams themselves. In times of transition, their unclear meaning is a companion of sorts, open to various interpretation. Collage offers a second chance, juxtaposition, surprise -- a new path.”
