Norma Pfriem Breast Center to Kick Off 2018 Pink Pledge in Fairfield Sept. 27

FAIRFIELD, CT – Norma Pfriem Breast Center, part of Smilow Cancer Hospital, will kick off its fourth annual Pink Pledge campaign on Thursday, September 27 at 5:30 pm as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place each year during the month of October. People’s United Bank, 2018 Pink Pledge Lead Corporate Event Sponsor, will help kick off this year’s campaign with a stroll that will begin and end at the Fairfield Town Hall green, and feature guest speakers, a live band, and other fun activities.

In addition to lead corporate event sponsor People’s United Bank, supporters of the Pink Pledge include Miller Nissan, Bigelow Tea, Band Together CT, Aquarion Water Co., Maritime Aquarium, Houlihan Lawrence, Fairfield County Community Foundation, Little Pub and Denise Walsh & Partners.

This year’s Pink Pledge co-chairs are Fairfield residents Marlene Battista and Amy Desel, and Meghan McCloat of Easton, all members of the center’s president’s council.

“On behalf of our patients and their families, I sincerely thank our co-chairs for the tireless work they’ve done to invite individuals, schools, fitness centers, restaurants, businesses, town offices and many others to take part in the 2018 Pink Pledge,” said Donna Twist, Norma Pfriem Breast Center executive director and vice president of the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation. “Together with our many community partners, we plan to sponsor activities throughout the month October to raise breast cancer awareness and support the charitable programs of Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Last year’s Pink Pledge raised over $150,000 and our goal is to top that amount this year.”

As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month the Norma Pfriem Breast Center has a series of activities planned to inform women about critical steps they can take to reduce their risk of breast cancer.  On October 5, the Pink Pop-Up Party, also sponsored by People’s United Bank, will take place at the Fairfield Theater Company. Funds raised will support the center’s program for women who need financial assistance.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with the Norma Pfriem Breast Center to sponsor this important community event and raise awareness of the life-saving efforts of the Center,” said Valerie Senew, Senior Vice President and Senior Growth Manager, Retail Banking, People’s United Bank. “Each year hundreds of thousands of women fight this disease, and it’s our hope that with the collective efforts of the community and the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, we can shed light on the importance of preventative care all women should practice each year.”

Norma Pfriem Breast Center provides nearly 1,400 uninsured and underinsured women with financial assistance for patient care and educates over 10,000 women and girls about breast cancer risk each year. One of only 500 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the Center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital, Fairfield and Trumbull locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, genetic risk assessment, clinical trial participation as well as wellness services like yoga, nutrition counseling and massage.
