Beardsley Zoo Hosts "Conservation in CT" Talk at Fairfield Library, Oct. 25

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo Director Gregg Dancho will join the Zoo’s Education Curator Jim Knox and other local wildlife conservation experts in a “Conservation in Connecticut” discussion at the Fairfield Public Library on Thursday, October 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. Hosted by Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo and covering everything from birds to bats to bees and beyond, Dancho and Knox will be joined by Tim Walsh, Bruce Museum collection manager; Patrick Comins, executive director of The Connecticut Audubon Society; Stacey Marcell, arborist and owner of Northeast Horticultural Services; and Jenny Dickson, supervising wildlife biologist at CT DEEP/Wildlife Diversity and Outreach Program.

“Conservation in Connecticut” is part two of a Conservation Conversation begun by the Bruce Museum in June 2018, that focused on global endangered species issues. The “Conservation in Connecticut” discussion will focus on Backyard Conservation, with discussion of wildlife common throughout the area, answer audience questions about providing help to beneficial wildlife through the winter (for instance, birdfeeding), and how individuals can make a difference in the fate of Connecticut’s own endangered species. The conversation will be driven by audience participation, so the Zoo encourages guests to come with an inquisitive mind and questions for the panelists.

Zoo Director Gregg Dancho said, “I’m very pleased to host an event which emphasizes the extremely fragile position of many of our wild species, and answers questions about animals in our own backyards.”

Light refreshments will be served during the reception, which begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Rotary Room at Fairfield’s Public Library, located at 1080 Old Post Road in Fairfield. $10 suggested donation.
