Westport Chabad to Host Community Evening of Wellness, Nov. 15

Westport, CT - Chabad of Westport and the Friendship Circle of Fairfield County will host a Community Evening of Awareness with best-selling author, anti-bullying activist and motivational speaker, Jesse Saperstein. Saperstein, who has a form of autism called Asperger’s Syndrome, offers an insightful and humorous take on the challenges of living with autism. His first book, “Atypical: Life with Asperger’s in 20 ⅓ chapters” was published in 2010 and highlights the harsh realities he faced living as an adult on the autism spectrum. The candid memoir quickly gained popularity for its practical advice and humor.

Saperstein eventually became an anti-bullying advocate with a grant from the Anderson Center for Autism where he launched a “free-falling to end bullying” campaign with a skydiving stint. He later participated in the “Keeping it Real” project with New York University that introduced an anti-bullying curriculum to the New York City public schools. Saperstein has also proudly spoken out against bullying in front of the United Nations.

His second book, released in 2014, is called “Getting a Life with Asperger’s: Lessons Learned on the Bumpy Road to Adulthood” and is based on his experience living independently as an adult. He currently lives in Albany, New York and serves as the Media and Activities Director for the College Experience Program (CEP) run by Living Resources, Inc. The CEP gives individuals living with disabilities the opportunity to attend a mainstream college with a modified curriculum and provides life skills and employment training.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 15th at the Chabad of Westport located at 79 Newtown Turnpike in Westport, CT. The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin with refreshments at 7:30 PM followed by the program at 8:00 PM.
