TeamBrent to Host Final St. Baldrick's Fundraiser, March 24

Westport, CT - On Sunday, March 24 at the Westport Weston Family YMCA, TeamBrent is hosting its 15th annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation with an extra special group of speakers. This event will be TeamBrent’s final St. Baldrick’s event, after raising over four million dollars for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation over the past 14 years. When TeamBrent started 15 years ago, there was one local event at Bradford’s in Stamford. The Team started there and branched off on their own the next year. The founders have been thrilled to watch the growth of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in reach and impact. There are now 16 events within 20 miles of the Y, as well as more that haven’t registered yet. TeamBrent has held events at bars, schools, the Arena at Harbor Yards, the YMCA, in Boston, in London, and in Singapore and had a lot of fun in the process. It is a good time for TeamBrent to hang up its organizer role, say the founders, and turn their attention towards helping other groups grow.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Whether you participated last year, 15 years ago, or many times in between, those funds that you raised have been growing. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has put them to good use and we have even seen cures come from some of the earlier funds, and as well as a LOT of promising research in progress. TeamBrent invites you to join them for some special speakers this year and learn what the Foundation has accomplished, and what is yet to come. Registration for shavees opens at 12 and speakers will start promptly at 12:30.

TeamBrent's 15-Year Anniversary Ceremonies will be hosted by the one and only Sportscaster Deb Placey and will feature:

- 24-year-old Jake Teitelbaum, a lymphoma survivor and Founder of Resilience Gives, a company using custom socks to empower patient communities and inspire resilience.  You may know Jake from the Capalbo Strong socks!  Jake was diagnosed while a student at Wake Forest University, tried to fight the cancer while attending, until his doctor told him frankly that "college was no longer a priority."   Learn more: https://www.resilience.gives/pages/our-beginnings

Anthony Capalbo, father of Charlie. Anthony spoke at last year's event about Charlie's recovery from Lymphoma (TLL).  After TeamBrent's event, Charlie regained 40 lbs, coached some hockey, and in September he started Fairfield University. In October, routine labs showed abnormalities which turned out to be a new cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (CNS AML). Charlie is currently recovering from a stem cell transplant - with his brother Will's marrow!  Learn more: https://patch.com/connecticut/fairfield/family-ties-fairfield-teen-donating-bone-marrow-brother

- Special Operations Intelligence Operator George Dutile, a Marine for just over eight years, and served in a special capacity on a SEAL team for the remainder of his 16-year tenure. He's tough - and says kids with cancer are tougher.  Learn more: https://www.greenwichsentinel.com/2018/11/20/local-veterans-open-up-about-experiences-in-the-military/

Mike McCreesh, Chairman of the Board, St. Baldrick's Foundation. Mike is father to two daughters and 16-year-old Brent.  Brent was diagnosed with stage iv neuroblastoma at age two. Mike and Brent are beleaguered NY Mets fans. Their experience with hopefulness in the face of adversity came in handy during cancer treatment. In that vein, they will never give up in their fight to cure all childhood cancers.

Dr. Kevin J. Curran is the Pediatric Director of the Cellular Therapeutic Center (CTC) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a former St. Baldrick's Scholar. His St. Baldrick's funded research is to develop new treatments for pediatric cancer using the immune system thereby improving response and reducing toxicity.  YES YOU FUNDED THIS! Learn more: https://www.stbaldricks.org/blog/post/teaching-good-cells-to-see-cancer-researcher-uses-car-t-cells-to-help-kids-like-zach-video

These speakers cannot be missed. TeamBrent welcomes all. This is a spectacular lineup of talent and experience, and hearing them will be a worthwhile spend of anyone's time.

Of all the people who have ever registered for a St. Baldrick's Foundation event, only 1% have participated for 7+ years to be inducted into the Knights of Bald Table. TeamBrent has been proud to induct 111 people into the Knights of the Bald Table at TeamBrent events. At the conclusion of the speakers, they will induct three new Knights, and then shave heads from 1:15-2:15, while DJ Ed Train spins tunes, Once Upon a Face Designs paints heads & studio photographer Heidi Curran clicks away! Participants can enjoy free use of the YMCA for the day (pool, fitness center, child play area), so bring a towel! Come hungry for amazing baked goods from a related bake sale!

Many kids have spent over half their lives shaving their heads for St. Baldrick's. Half Lifers, stop by the Half Lifer table and pick up a green lei necklace so that everyone can recognize your commitment!

Parking at the Red Barn (292 Wilton Road, Westport) with NONSTOP SHUTTLES to the Y.
