Int'l Make Music Day Returns to Fairfield, June 21

FAIRFIELD, CT – Make Music Day Fairfield returns to Fairfield on Friday, June 21 from 3PM-10PM. Venues and artists are asked and encouraged to register to participate at www.makemusicday.org/fairfield.

Make Music Day is a free, outdoor music festival celebrated worldwide on the Summer Solstice each year. This year, the solstice falls on Friday, June 21.

Created in Paris, France in 1982, Make Music Day has grown to more than 1000 cities, making this the world’s largest music event.

The festival features music of all styles, and is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Performances take place in parks, sidewalks, town squares, beaches, front porches and parking lots. Each performance throughout the day is completely free and open to the public.

Last year was the town’s inaugural Make Music Fairfield and a tremendous success. Four venues hosted over 20 artists that performed music to audiences of all sizes. Fairfield native and Make Music Fairfield 2018 performer Jessica Wasserman says, “Make Music Fairfield was an amazing way to connect with the community. It was such a humbling experience to be able to share my music with the town I grew up in.”

This year, Make Music Fairfield is asking new and returning artists and venues to join in the festival. Artists ranging from students, amateurs, and professionals are all encouraged to participate in this global celebration of music.

Both artists and venues sign up through the online match-making software, available at matchfairfield.makemusicday.org/register. Venue profiles include contact information, performance durations, style of music desired, and equipment provided. Artist profiles consist of contact information, sound bites, and genre of music performed. Pictures, social media, and website links can all be uploaded to venue and artist profiles.

Once the profiles are created, venues may browse the list of artists and vice versa, each requesting an amount of time from the other for a performance.  Requests are accepted or declined at the discretion of the artist or venue.  Before a performance is finalized, the venue and artist must both accept and agree on the terms. Once approved, the performance is posted to the live, interactive map on the MMD website which the public can view and explore to start planning their Make Music Day itinerary.
