Fairfield, CT - The Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield, will conduct a Fern Identification Workshop, teaching participants how to identify the common ferns of our area. The workshop is Saturday, July 13, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Did you know that most of the ferns we see today first appeared about 45 million years ago? If you’d like to learn much more about one of the oldest groups of plants on earth, join botanist Jim Cortina at the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield for a workshop on Saturday, July 13, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Discover the ferns that are common to Connecticut and use identification keys and magnifying loops to distinguish the differences. Fun fern facts include: fern size ranges from 2 inches to 30 feet high, they have neither seeds nor flowers, and most modern fern families first appeared during the age of the dinosaurs. The workshop includes a short break for lunch or snack (bring your own), and a cool, shady fern walk in the Larsen Sanctuary.
