Geary Gallery Presents William Ternes in July

DARIEN, CT — This July, the Geary Gallery celebrates its 35th Anniversary as Darien's premier fine art gallery, custom frame shop and art restoration studio. Since 1984, owners Anne and Tom Geary have spotted and nurtured the careers of artists from along the Eastern Seaboard, with a lively schedule of art exhibits that rotate monthly. During this special month, the gallery presents “Brilliant Summerscapes,” a vibrant retrospective of plein air watercolorist, William Ternes (1933-2014). His exhibit runs July 2 – 31 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

"Our visitors are often surprised by the breadth and variety of fine, original art that they will find here," says Anne Geary. " No matter their preference, our clients know they can find a fine, professionally curated, unique work of art for themselves or for gift giving." On display throughout the spacious Geary Gallery, are a wide range of originals, representing numerous mediums — from oils, acrylics, pastels, to decoys, bronze, and marble.

Meeting the needs of professional artists, collectors and their clients is also important to the Gearys, who provide the community with high-quality custom framing, as well as museum-quality oil painting and frame restoration through Accent Picture Framing and Accent Restoration. Known throughout the tri-state region for taking on challenging frame projects, they are the area's experts on 3-D shadowboxes. As Tom Geary likes to say, "special orders don't upset us!"

In appreciation of their clients' patronage throughout the years, Anne and Tom Geary will be holding a drawing for a $350 gift certificate to Geary Gallery or Accent Picture Framing and Accent Restoration. Any purchase a customer makes throughout the month of July qualifies that customer to be entered into the drawing. A winner will be randomly selected on August 6, 2019.

Featured Artist for July: William Ternes (1933-2014)

William Ternes was a watercolor and oil painter known for his vibrant use of color in the natural world where he painted plein air for most of his life. Bill was born in Salem, MA, and attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating with a degree in art education. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy as an officer where he served in the Pacific. He went on to receive his MBA at Columbia University and after working as a financial services executive in a number of institutions, he left the world of finance to pursue his passion as an artist.

Bill was a master member of the Copley Society of Boston, emeritus member of The Guild of Boston Artists, former president of the New England Watercolor Society, and a signature member of the American Watercolor Society. His works were exhibited in numerous exhibitions including Allied Artists, Audubon Artists, The National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club of NYC. His work can be found in many corporate and private collections.

Bill enjoyed sharing his knowledge with many dedicated students around the world. For over thirty years he led workshops on Martha’s Vineyard every June and September and in January at Harbour Island in the Bahamas. Many devoted students studied in his other workshops in international destinations including Lyford Cay (Bahamas), Spain, France and Ireland.

The William Ternes exhibit runs July 2 - 31 and his paintings are available for acquisition. All are welcome and admission is free. To view some of his work, visit our online gallery. https://www.gearygallery.com/?artists=william-ternes
