Julie Leff is a Weston oil painter. She is a graduate of Yale University and has taken classes at Silvermine Guild. Since she began painting professionally in 2001, her work has appeared in numerous solo and group shows in New York and Connecticut art venues. She has also won awards for her artwork and it is in many private collections in the US, Europe, and Asia.

In this show, Julie has her floral paintings. She says, “I paint florals, still lifes, abstracts and portraits. First, I am attracted to a subject and I try to understand why. Usually color plays the largest part. Then, I decide on a size and shape for the finished work. Finally, I put paint on the canvas in such a way as to try to capture the essence that first attracted me.…I am a traditionalist. At the same time, my work is time-bound and personal, faithful to my own perceptions and ideas...I paint for myself, for my love of color and form, but in a way that invites others to discover the beauty I see in the world.”

Karen Kalkstein is a Stamford mixed media artist and photographer. She majored in art at Scripps College in California where she grew up,  earned a BA in art education at New York University, and has continued taking classes and workshops at many art facilities.

After college, Karen taught high school art, elementary art, and private classes for children. She also designed, dyed, and printed custom T-shirts. Then she had her own business designing and hand-glazing ceramic tiles for private clients. Her work has been shown across the country and is in the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Collection in New Jersey, as well as in many private collections .

In this show, Karen has collages on bark. She says, “Nature and the flow of life are at the heart of my work. My subject matter and materials are mostly found in the natural world - the human figure, the woods, the weather. And there are themes: the changes, the beauty and the aging of any living thing.”
