Darien's Geary Gallery Features Westport Artist Jarvis Wilcox in Sept.

Darien, CT - This September, the Geary Gallery of Darien is proud to present for the first time, “Emotional Connections,” featuring the thought-provoking paintings of Westport, Connecticut artist, Jarvis Wilcox. His exhibit runs September 3 – 28 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

September Featured Artist: Jarvis Wilcox

Art, any art, is a unique means of communicating and experiencing intuitive and/or subjective knowledge and understanding. “As the practitioner of a non-verbal art, my first objective is to intrigue the viewer into spending enough time with the painting to absorb the atmosphere and be seduced into entering a new, unfamiliar world,” says Westport, Connecticut artist, Jarvis Wilcox.

“The art in painting is not simply the presentation of an object or objects so that the viewer is wowed by the trompe l'oeil or the virtuosity of execution, but an exploration of interactions of the objects represented as well as their relationships to their surroundings—the haunting echoes of relationships in the everyday experience of the viewer,” explains Wilcox.

In other words, he believes that the poetry of painting lies not in the images presented so much as in the emotional connections stimulated, brought to mind and made real by each viewer's individual, unique response to the picture. Each viewer must have his or her own response, but if the work is good, all responses will be related, though individual.

This is the goal of Wilcox each time he paints. He communicates the excitement, the delight, and the insight he discovers in seeing his subjects as he creates.

“A painting is a mood sustained and realized. A picture cannot be comprehended in a glance; paintings, like any of the temporal arts as well as good red wines, take time to reveal themselves. Please enjoy!” he says.

Wilcox has held extensive solo exhibitions, including at the Pequot Library and Southport Galleries in Southport, CT; Vanderbilt Gallery and John Evans Studio in Nantucket, MA; and Edward Hopper House in Nyack, NY to name a few.

His exhibit runs September 3 - 28 and his paintings are available for acquisition. All are welcome and admission is free. To view some of his work, visit our online gallery. https://www.gearygallery.com/?artists=jarvis-wilcox#true/0/
