CT Audubon Fairfield Fall Nature Festival: Oct. 4 & 5

Fairfield, Conn. - The Connecticut Audubon Society invites you to welcome in the new season at their Fall Nature Festival Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5 at the Center at Fairfield on Burr Street. The festival is celebrating over a century of conservation and will raise funds to support Connecticut Audubon’s conservation and environmental education programs in Fairfield.

The weekend’s festivities begin Friday, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with a cocktail and buffet reception, including hors d’ouerves by Garelick and Herbs, and live music by Anthony DeQuattro’s Jazz Trio. A highlight of the reception will be special guest speaker renowned artist, author and naturalist James Prosek.

The evening will also feature an exhibition and sale of John James Audubon Birds of America Amsterdam Edition prints. More than 160 limited edition color printed lithographs are in this collection, produced on hand-made rag paper like the original editions printed by Havells of London. These prints have been referred to as “the finest limited edition facsimiles of the single greatest ornithological work ever produced and printed.” To view the prints in advance, an exhibition catalogue is available at: www.ctaudubon.org/audubon-catalog2019.

The Fall Nature Festival continues at the Center on Saturday with a Family Fun Day, from noon to 4 p.m. This afternoon of outdoor and indoor activities is geared for enjoyment by all ages. Tickets are $10 per adult; $5 per child.

At 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., see a live presentation of Brian Bradley’s “Skyhunters in Flight” birds of prey program. Bradley is a master falconer whose educational program features free flying birds of prey demonstrations. Learn about raptor training, falconry techniques, raptor adaptations for survival in the wild and more.

The afternoon’s fun includes touch-a-tractor, Pied Piper Pony Rides & Petting Zoo, plus other live animals. There will also be food for sale from Alene’s Ice Cream Truck, Snappy Dawgs and East Coast Pizza Truck.

Shari Greenblatt, The Connecticut Audubon Society’s Southwest Region Director who oversees the Center at Fairfield, hopes the variety of events will bring people of all ages and interests to the Center to view and learn about the many ways Connecticut Audubon encourages knowledge and stewardship of the natural world.

“The funds raised by the Fall Nature Festival, Greenblatt says, “will support not only the operations of the Center’s facilities and wildlife sanctuary, but also the dynamic activities it offers the community as an easily accessible, year-round nature center. There are many ways to try us out -- from the seven miles of sanctuary trails; to conservation education programs like the Naturalist Training for adults; to the many school programs and summer camp experiences for children. Creating opportunities to strengthen peoples’ connections with nature also builds awareness of the need to preserve and protect it.”

The Center at Fairfield’s Fall Nature Festival is generously supported by Moffly Media as exclusive magazine sponsor, and by Post Road Residential.

All events for the Fall Nature Festival take place at the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street. More information, including how to purchase tickets for both Friday and Saturday events, is available at: www.ctaudubon.org/2019/07/fall-nature-festival/.
