Stop & Shop Teaming Up with Faxon Law New Haven Road Race to Feed the Hungry in New Haven!

New Haven, CT: Stop & Shop and the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race are teaming up to help feed New Haven residents struggling with hunger during this critical time.  The virtual road race is focusing on community organizations most affected by COVID-19 and is asking participants to consider donating to the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK) during online registration. Stop & Shop will match all donations up to $2,500.

“As we try to navigate through the challenges that coronavirus has brought to our lives, it is more important now than ever that we work together to help our neighbors whose lives have been impacted,” said Maura O’Brien, Manager of Community Relations at Stop & Shop. “We are proud to be teaming up with the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race to support DESK to ensure all of our neighbors have access to food and nourishment.”

DESK serves over 4,000 people who are experiencing homelessness or living in poverty by providing food assistance and services that promote health, community, and equity.  At the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, DESK moved quickly to partner with our sister agencies to develop and launch a new program, called Pantry-to-Pantry, to ensure that those who are immunocompromised and should not be leaving their homes would have the food they need.  Today, more than 100 volunteers deliver groceries to over 1,100 households.

The New Haven Road Race is happy to be supporting DESK. Joel Faxon, long time sponsor with the Faxon Law Group, agrees “the virtual race will be different, but still promote fun & family over Labor Day weekend while also giving back to our community that has been impacted by COVID-19”.

The 43rd Annual Faxon Law New Haven Road Race has become a virtual event. Participants can register for the virtual half marathon, 20K, 5K, or Kids Fun Run, and participate at the time and place of their choosing during Labor Day Weekend (September 4th – 7th).

Participants will be mailed bibs and their custom road race shirts in the mail prior to the virtual event. Results will be self-reported and complied into a race results database. Race organizers look forward to participants sharing their experiences on social media.

Sponsors of the New Haven Road Race include the Faxon Law Group, Stop & Shop, AVANGRID, Town Fair Tire, Yale University, Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, New Haven Terminal and 99.1PLR.  Visit www.newhavenroadrace.org to register for the virtual race!
