Virtual Success for the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race

New Haven, CT:  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 43rd Annual Faxon Law New Haven Road Race became a virtual event, held over Labor Day weekend. Race organizers are thrilled to announce that nearly 1,000 runners participated and over $10,000 was raised for New Haven non-profits. Each year the event benefits numerous New Haven non-profits and this year the focus was on organizations that help feed local families in need.

Participants were mailed bibs and their custom road race shirts. Results were self-reported and complied into a race results database. “We heard from many runners who participated it was important to keep their annual tradition of running in our event,” states Michael Dolan, Race President, “especially the eight 'streakers' who have run every 20K since the race began in 1978."

John Bysiewicz, Race Director for the past 32 years, was able to participate in his own event for the first time. He adds, “I’m happy we were able to find an alternative to canceling the event and I enjoyed running the 5K with my family. I still prefer being on the New Haven Green and looking forward to gathering together at the start line in 2021."

Joel Faxon, long-time sponsor with the Faxon Law Group, agreed. “The virtual race was different, but still promoted fun and family on Labor Day weekend while also giving back to our community that has been impacted by COVID-19." Many of the Faxon Law Group employees participated from all over the state and shared their experiences on social media.

The event benefits local nonprofits, including Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK). DESK serves over 4,000 people who are experiencing homelessness or living in poverty by providing food assistance and services that promote health, community, and equity. At the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, DESK moved quickly to partner with the race's sister agencies to develop and launch a new program, called Pantry-to-Pantry, to ensure that those who are immunocompromised and should not be leaving their homes would have the food they need. Today, more than 100 volunteers deliver groceries to over 1,100 households.

Sponsors of the New Haven Road Race include the Faxon Law Group, Stop & Shop, Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Alexion, Avangrid, Town Fair Tire, and 99.1PLR.  Visit www.newhavenroadrace.org  for information & results!
