Community Program Offered for Elementary Age Children to Explore Mill River

Fairfield, CT - The first in a series of community programs developed to educate and engage local citizens in the exploration of Mill River will be launched beginning on Wednesday, October 28 from 1:00pm - 2:30pm at the River-Lab Outdoor Classroom located at 2 Mill Hill Terrace. The event is $15/person and open to children ages 7-10 years. Masks are required, physical distancing will be maintained, and participation is limited for this drop off program. Advance registration is required. Please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b044daeaa23a3fe3-erosion for additional details and to register.

Participants will explore the work of the meandering river, build a model river, and walk along the river to see how it affects the land, plants, and animals. The children will be led by an experienced guide from Mill River Wetland Committee’s (MRWC) River-Lab Program which has served the Fairfield Public School System for over 50 years.

MRWC is a non-profit Fairfield organization with the mission to educate the community about the value of watersheds, to advocate for their continued protection, and to engage all people in the fight to protect our environment.

MRWC sponsors the River-Lab Program, a hands-on educational program used in the Fairfield public and parochial schools in grades 3-7 to supplement the science curriculum. Over 3,000 students and 600 adult volunteers participate in the River-Lab Program annually. They learn about maintaining productivity in a river basin system by studying our own Mill River and the estuary where it meets Long Island Sound.
