CT Audubon’s “Birds of America” Virtual Opening on Zoom, Tues. Feb. 9, 6-7pm

Connecticut - Celebrate the return of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, Bien edition double elephant folio to Pequot Library with a very special talk in partnership with the Connecticut Audubon Society (CAS). CAS Executive Director, Patrick Comins, joins us with Pequot Library Board Chairman and past CAS Center Director / Interim President, Nelson North, for a discussion of Audubon, conservation, and and the naturalists who have shaped current day conservation.

“Audubon’s Double Elephant Folio is an artistic, scientific and historical treasure and is only one of 149 known extant copies of this magnificent book. The size and quality of the printing allow for stunning details of each species to emerge,” says Mr. Comins. “A work comprising nearly 500 species of birds, every turn of the page offers a new artistic wonder and a new perspective on the beautiful and fascinating creatures that are the Birds of North America.”

Patrick Comins is executive director of the Connecticut Audubon Society. He is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford and has worked in the bird conservation field for more than 20 years. Patrick began his career with the Connecticut Audubon Society undertaking bird surveys at the McKinney National Wildlife Refuge, and served as the director of bird conservation for Audubon Connecticut for nearly 17 years before coming to the Connecticut Audubon Society. He is a past president of the Connecticut Ornithological Association. He is a member of the Connecticut Forest Practices Advisory Board, a position appointed by the Governor and a founding member and past chair of the Friends of the Silvio O Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.
