Fairfield, CT - Fairfield officials will preside over the unveiling of a COVID-19 Memorial designed and built by Lin Sunil, a senior at Fairfield Warde High School.
The unveiling is scheduled to take place Wednesday, October 27, at 4:30 pm at Jennings Park, at the corner of North Benson and Post Road. The Town’s parks crew created a walkway at the Memorial and will be adding benches.
First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick and a member of the Parks and Recreation Staff, Chelsea Seres, aimed to be present along with Mr. Sunil’s friends and family. Mr. Sunil is extremely grateful to the Parks and Recreation Commission for unanimously approving this project that he feels is located at a highly visible place in Town.
Mr. Sunil created this Memorial for his Eagle Scout project and because COVID-19 has had an impact on his family and the entire Fairfield community. Mr. Sunil designed and constructed a brick memorial that is 3-feet-tall and 4-feet-wide with an aluminum plaque in the middle which reads, “COVID-19 swept the globe and destroyed millions of people’s lives. In a few years, the pandemic will be one more chapter in history, but the people we lost will always be with us. In loving memory of those angels who’ve fallen due to COVID-19, the virus that changed the world as we knew it.” Mr. Sunil’s main purpose is to bring unity over one common cause and demonstrate that even during times of extreme division, we can still come together as great individuals and achieve great things.
