RENT Opens at ACT of CT, reminds us to make summer a season of LOVE!

ACT of Connecticut’s RENT reminds us to make this summer a summer of love, and treasure every minute we spend with our family and friends.

Experiencing RENT in ACT’s intimate setting - where the average seating distance from the stage is less than 25 feet, takes the audience on a yearlong journey with a group of friends experiencing death, homelessness, AIDS, and deplorable human behaviors - all overcome by the love they have for each other. They teach us to appreciate every minute that we get to spend with the people we love.

ACT’s Artistic Director Daniel C. Levine debuts his brilliance as Lighting Director for RENT, a true standout moment of the iconic production. Levine incorporates the lighting as a character in RENT, helping the audience see the personal struggle of each individual.

The all-star cast delivers as a tight-knit group of friends trying to cope with not only the pain and suffering on the outside but by being true to who they are.

Among the group is a filmmaker Mark Cohen [Ben Bogen] his former girlfriend who is now a lesbian Maureen [Paloma D’Auria] and her partner Joanne [Amber Hurst Martin].  Mark's roommate is an HIV-positive musician named Roger [Austin Turner] whose girlfriend is a drug-addicted S&M dancer, Mimi [Paola V. Hernandez].  Mark and Roger's friend, Tom Collins [Gordia Hayes] develops a powerful romance with an HIV-positive drag queen, Angel [Devin Price]. Finally, we meet Benny [Luis Herrera], once part of their friend group, now their landlord and the antithesis of the person they knew.

Every audience member leaves with a mission to use every one of the 525,600 minutes of their year to demonstrate compassion, inclusion and acceptance....and make every season a season of love.

ACT’s season finale is indeed grand! Thank you to Daniel C. Levine, Byan Perri, Resident Music Supervisor, Erin Craig, Producing Director, ACT’s Executive Director, Katie Diamond and the incredible cast! Go see RENT!
