The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.

Nutcrackers, gingerbread houses, snow princesses, and Broadway stars are among the magical treasures just waiting to be unwrapped this weekend. The season of cheer continues this weekend with holiday music and musicals, a flurry of theatre and dance, craft workshops, and unique shopping experiences. So many opportunities to get out there and soak up arts and culture for the holidays!

Former national Poet Laureate, Billy Collins will read from his latest book of poems, Musical Tables, and be in conversation with Antoinette Brim-Bell, Connecticut's Poet Laureate. In his new book, Collins has found a new form for his unique poetic style: the small poem, as he writes about his trademark themes of nature, animals, poetry, mortality, absurdity, and love — all in a handful of lines. A Christmas Bluegrass Celebration at Wall Street Theater, Norwalk

In a magical land where sugarplums dance and flowers waltz, this ballet tells the classic tale of a young girl and her Nutcracker Prince and is always a great way to make the holidays bright.

If you love Broadway, this one's for you! Glitz, glamor, music, and holiday fun for the whole family! A series of four, festive cabaret performances by all-star, award-winning performers features holiday hits, Broadway classics, and more! “Christmas with Lee'' stars David Maiocco as Liberace and runs on Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 2pm. On Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm, Frank Mastrone stars in “Christmas Time Is Here.” Two new shows on tap for next weekend. Come to one or all! It’s the perfect way to celebrate love, joy, and of course, music. 

Weekend Workshop: Holiday Nutcrackers at Wilton Historical Society

Decorate wooden nutcrackers, craft delicate paper ballerinas, and enjoy a snack of gingerbread cookies and apple cider while Museum Educator Catherine Lipper discusses the historical significance of decorative nutcrackers in German folklore and their popularity thanks to Tchaikovsky’s famous Nutcracker Ballet.

The Tale of the Snow Princess at The Ferguson Library, Stamford

A special holiday show presented by Curtain Call Theatre, The Tale of the Snow Princess: Or How Venice Got Its Canals, is a theatrical adaptation of traditional stories and seasonal music presented in the style of Italian commedia dell'arte street theater. For ages 8 - 14. Families are welcome. Audience participation encouraged and reservations required. 

Christmas Cheer & Holiday Mixes at the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Fairfield

The Mendelssohn Choir and its festival orchestra presents an evening of Christmas cheer on the campus of Fairfield University. Mendelssohn's 38th Season is dedicated to the vision and artistry of founding director, Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell, and the gifts and dedication of accompanist Beth Palmer.

Annual Holiday Show at FTC’s StageOne, Fairfield

Usher in the season with New Paradigm Theatre Company’s Annual Holiday show featuring Broadway and local stars and NPT young people. This holiday extravaganza is jam-packed with Broadway dancers, singers, instrumentalists, and “Ms Clauz with a Z” and her elves. Music Directed by Chris Coogan. 

“Two Classical Gems” at Norwalk Concert Hall

The Fairfield County Chorale kicks off its 60th season with a presentation of two masters of sacred choral music – Franz Joseph Haydn, with his Lord Nelson Mass, and Mozart with his Solemn Vespers. The 80-member Chorale, led by Maestro David Rosenmeyer, will be joined by soprano Samarie Alicea, mezzo-soprano Veronica Pollicino, tenor Alexei Kuznietsov, bass-baritone Enrico Lagasca, and the Fairfield County Chorale Orchestra.
