Maritime Aquarium Offers Sensory-Friendly Morning, April 2

Norwalk, CT – In recognition of World Autism Day, The Maritime Aquarium will hold a sensory-friendly morning to accommodate guests with sensory-processing differences. On Sunday, April 2 at 8 a.m. the Aquarium will open all galleries and exhibits with dimmed lights and lowered sounds.

“Providing enjoyable experiences to our guests is one of our top priorities,” said Vice President of Education Tom Naiman. “Our sensory-friendly mornings allow those with sensory-processing differences to comfortably explore the Aquarium in a fun and accepting environment.”

During the event, the Aquarium’s 4D Theater will have two showings with the lights on, no sensory effects, and lowered sounds. Additionally, there will be a before hours seal feeding demonstration at 9 a.m. without narration broadcasted through the exhibit’s sound system.

Admission is discounted for this special event. Adult tickets can be purchased for $19 and child tickets can be purchased for $14. If guests with special needs must leave within 30 minutes of their visit, the Aquarium will provide a ticket to return another day.

The Maritime Aquarium regularly trains staff on best practices to accommodate guests with special needs and is a proud organizer of Accessibility for All – a partnership of Fairfield County attractions that work together to reduce the stress of planning outings for guests with intellectual, sensory, and physical challenges.
