Fairfield, Conn. - Fairfield Public Library is delighted to present writer Joyce Maynard at an author talk and tea on Wednesday, May 3, at 2:00pm at Main Library. Joyce will be celebrating the launch of her new book, The Bird Hotel, a sweeping story spanning four decades about an American woman escaping her tragic past in a small Central American village. There will be a book signing and reception immediately following the event.
Joyce Maynard first came to prominence in 1972, when her essay, “An Eighteen-Year-Old Looks Back on Life”, was published by the New York Times. Since then, she has written over 18 books, including the NYT-bestseller Labor Day, which was made into a feature film, and the memoir At Home in the World, which includes details of her time spent with reclusive author J.D. Salinger. Joyce has been a reporter and columnist for the New York Times, a syndicated newspaper columnist, and a regular contributor to NPR and to national publications including Vogue, the New York Times Magazine, and more. She is also the founder of “Write by the Lake”, a week-long workshop on crafting a memoir that has been held every year since 2001 in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.
