Southport, CT - Local government officials, civic leaders and concerned citizens are gathering on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2pm to protest United Illuminating's devastating power plan in Southport, Fairfield and Bridgeport. Should this project proceed as proposed, it will trigger profound and irrevocable consequences, affecting our local economy, environment, and overall quality of life, event organizers say. Residents, organizations and businesses in Southport, Fairfield, and Bridgeport will bear the brunt of this impact, they add. Details are below.

WHAT: “Save Our Town” A Public Protest Against United Illuminating’s Devastating Power Plan in Southport, Fairfield and Bridgeport

WHEN: Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT 06890

WHO: State and local government officials and civic leaders will share the latest developments 

WHY: Should this project proceed as proposed, it will trigger profound and irrevocable consequences, affecting our local economy, environment, and overall quality of life. Residents, organizations, and businesses in Southport, Fairfield, and Bridgeport will bear the brunt of this impact.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

2:00pm   

Gathering in front of Pequot Library with music, food truck, cotton candy, free t-shirts for the first 200 people, face painting, and    more. 

2:20pm     

Series of speakers including:

  •         State Senator Tony Hwang
  •         Fairfield First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick
  •         State Representative Jennifer Leeper
  •         Stephanie Coakley, Executive Director, Pequot Library
  •         Rev. Laura Whitmore, Associate Minister, Southport Congregational Church 
  •         Steve and Andrea Ozyck, Co-Founders, Sasco Creek Neighbors Environmental Trust, Inc. (SCNETI)
  •         Representatives from the Audubon Society, Southport Conservancy, Trinity Episcopal Church, Sasquanaug Society and others
