SHU Community Theatre Presents Holiday Shows & Movies

Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart University Community Theatre, at 1420 Post Road, Fairfield, presents holiday events throughout the months of November and December, as follows: 

  • Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m.: Screening of the movie, Elf. Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood amongst Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York to find his real father. (2003, PG, 1h 37m)
  • Friday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.: Screening of the movie, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. A magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City and gives the pups superpowers, transforming them into The Mighty Pups. The Sunday, Nov. 26 screening at 1 p.m. is a sensory friendly viewing.   • Friday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.: Screening of the movie Planes, Trains & Automobiles. A Chicago advertising man must struggle to travel home from New York for Thanksgiving, with a loveable oaf of a shower-curtain-ring salesman as his only companion. (1987, R, 1h 33m) 
  • Sunday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.: Darlene Love. Kick off the holiday season with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love. Hear holiday classics including her signature song “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)” and chart-topping hits “He’s a Rebel,” “(Today I Met) the Boy I’m Gonna Marry,” “Da Do Run Run” and many more.
  • Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.: Screening of the movie, Gremlins. A young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town. (1984, PG, 1h 46m) 
  • Friday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m.: Instrumental Chamber Ensembles. This concert will feature diverse music performed by SHU student chamber ensembles.
  • Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m.: The Nutcracker – New York Theatre Ballet. From clockwork imps to a luminous owl that flies above the audience, mice dressed in polka dots and dancers dancing with huge chopsticks, this timeless, re-imagined classic bursts with energy and excitement. 
  • Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m.: Sacred Heart Orchestra: Holiday Concert. The SHU Orchestra will perform its annual holiday concert of classical and light music.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m.: John Tesh – A Jazzy Swingin’ Christmas. For this show, Tesh uses a 7-piece band that includes a 3-piece horn section performing a timeless Christmas and holiday favorites along with highlights from his 2011 album Big Band Christmas and renowned originals from his catalogue. 
  • Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.: Cherish The Ladies – Celtic Christmas. For over 38 years, Cherish the Ladies, one of America’s most heralded Irish music ensembles, has won the hearts of audiences worldwide with their rousing blend of traditional music, captivating vocals and propulsive step dancing.
  • Friday, Dec. 15, at 8 p.m.: Livingston Taylor & Karla Bonoff – Home for the Holidays. Karla Bonoff and Livingston Taylor have joined forces for an unforgettable performance of song and joy featuring some of the best-known holiday classics, including songs from Bonoff’s critically acclaimed holiday album Silent Night, as well as some of their best-known songs.
  • Saturday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m.: The Connecticut Gay Men’s Chorus Presents Sleigh! The chorus promises to add the fabulous to your holiday calendar this year, featuring some sparkling new takes on traditional Christmas songs and thrilling new compositions that explore the rhythms of cultures from around the world.
  • Sunday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.: Screening of the movie, The Polar Express. On Christmas Eve, a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. The 1 p.m. screening is a sensory friendly viewing. (2004, G, 1h 40m)  
  • Thursday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m.: Serenata Chamber Series presents A Child’s Christmas in Wales. The beloved story is an anecdotal reminiscence of a Christmas from the viewpoint of a young boy, portraying a nostalgic and simpler time. The performance features world-renowned instrumentalists and singers and a narrator who recites the beloved narration.
