Westport, CT - Documentary short films will be featured at The Westport Library's SHORT CUTS Film Festival on Thursday, December 14, when the second of the festival’s three programs returns to the Library’s Trefz Forum.
“These beautifully crafted stories are perhaps ones that our audiences are not yet familiar with,” SHORT CUTS producer Nancy Diamond said. “Part of our joy in curating this festival is introducing these compelling gems.”
Selected from the renowned Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, SHORT CUTS brings to local audiences award-winning films and directors as well as current trends in filmmaking.
The documentaries slated for screening on December 14, starting at 7 pm, are:
- Then Comes the Body by Jacob Krupnick (Nigeria, U.S.): An unlikely ballet school outside Lagos, Nigeria, gains national attention after a video of students dancing in the rain goes viral.
- In Her Element by Idil Ibrahim (U.S.): Young hip-hop artist Daisha McBride takes the traditional rock and country audience in New Orleans by storm.
- Team Dream by Luchina Fisher (U.S.): Determined friends and competitive swimmers Ann and Madeline journey to the National Senior (swimming) Games.
- Deciding Vote by Jeremy Workman & Robert J. Lyons (U.S.)
Team Dream director Fisher will join Diamond after the screenings to discuss both her film and documentary filmmaking in general. Team Dream, executive produced by Queen Latifah, won Best Documentary at Martha's Vineyard’s TIDE Film Festival. Fisher’s latest short doc, The Dads, premiered at SXSW and is streaming now on Netflix. Fisher also teaches documentary filmmaking at Yale University.
SHORT CUTS Film Festival concludes on Thursday, January 18, with a second program of narrative shorts.
Tickets for both the December 14 and January 18 screenings are $26.50. Films are suitable for ages 12 and up. Refreshments and popcorn will be provided.
SHORT CUTS Film Festival is a program of the not-for-profit JIB Productions, producer of the long-running lunchtime series Play With Your Food.
