CT Food Bank Food Distribution: 50K Meals, Norwalk, Sept. 9, 10am-2pm

Norwalk, CT - The Connecticut Food Bank will conduct drive-through food distribution in Norwalk at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Wednesday, Sept. 9 that will provide food to people in need equivalent to more than 50,000 meals. Veteran’s Memorial Park is located at 42 Seaview Avenue, Norwalk, Conn. The distribution will take place from 10AM to 2PM, led by Connecticut Food Bank Chief Operating Officer Daniel Gomez, Connecticut Food Bank staff and Food Distribution Volunteers.

Food insecurity in Connecticut has increased significantly during the Coronavirus pandemic. Research from Feeding America projects that food insecurity in Connecticut Food Bank’s six-county service area will rise this year by 44%, to nearly 400,000 people. One in four children in the area is expected to face food insecurity this year, an increase of nearly 60%, to almost 122,000 children. As federal pandemic unemployment assistance ends and jobs remain scarce, reliance on food assistance is high.

Connecticut Food Bank provides food to people in need in Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham counties through a network of partners and programs that offer a combined 500 food access points. Connecticut Food Bank last year distributed food to provide nearly 23.9 million meals.
