Pequot Library to Host Derby Day Fundraiser, May 5

Southport, CT – Pequot Library welcomes partygoers to its lively “Derby-style” fundraiser, complete with Southern flair. On Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. the Great Lawn and the Auditorium of Pequot Library will be home to “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Celebrate the running of the 144th Kentucky Derby with big hats, cold drinks, hot food, and fast horses. New this year is the "after-party" with tacos, margaritas, dancing, and a deejay until 9:00 p.m. A Silent Auction, Derby Raffle, Best Hat Contest, and Best Tailgate Contest augment the fun. All proceeds directly support Pequot Library’s 500-plus annual programs and library services serving over 50,000 visitors a year.

The festivities start with tailgaters parking their cars in a horseshoe on the Great Lawn, with trunks facing the library. Tailgaters and individual ticket holders alike don stylish Spring apparel and large, colorful hats, mingle with other guests, enjoy drinks in the spirit of the day and Southern food provided by Cinch Food of Fairfield. Then convene in the Auditorium to watch the “Run for the Roses” on the big screen. Bring your own tailgate or enjoy the southern cuisine provided. All tickets include open bar, Kentucky fare, and after-party festivities. Registration is now open; visit pequotlibrary.org. Individual tickets are $75. Tailgate tickets for $300 include four individual tickets and special 3:00 p.m. entrance. All ticket prices increase after April 27.

The original “Run for the Roses” in 1875 was a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to build quality racing facilities in Louisville, KY. Today, Pequot Library continues that drama and excitement in Southport, CT with a fundraiser of its own for the purpose of raising money to help bring literature, music, art, science, and the humanities to all of Fairfield and beyond.

Pequot Library thanks this year’s Derby chairs, Kelly and Rob Scinto, for their tireless efforts and innovative input helping to make this Derby Day fundraiser a success. Pequot Library also thanks its Derby Day sponsors: Land Rover of Fairfield, The Russell Agency, LLC, Maserati of Westport, On the Harbor, All Seasons Marine Works, Serendipity, Kate Cacciatore, Westy Self Storage, The Two Oh Three, Candlewood Market, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Valor Spirits.
