Art/Place Gallery to Host Diane Pollack Solo Show Reception, May 5

Fairfield, CT - The public is invited to a reception at Art/Place Gallery on May 5 from 3 to 5 pm. The show is “Primordial Rituals redux”, the solo show of art by member, Diane Pollack. The show runs from May 1 to 26 and can be viewed every afternoon at 70 Sanford Street in Fairfield. See www.artplacegallery.org or call 203-374-9720.

Diane Pollack's collage and stitched art is about the universal symbols of matriarchy, which are incorporated to represent the generative power of the female form. Her latest work, Primordial Rituals redux, celebrates all aspects of survival in the form of a single abstracted cutout of a woman's  body which is repeated over and over. In honoring the fundamental role of women as the bearers of life, she arranges  and multiplies the one form, thus suggesting generations of knowledge and life experience both individual and collective. Stitching by hand and machine very practically holds the parts of the works on paper together as well as provides an elegance of line.
Pollack has exhibited widely in Connecticut, New York and Arizona. A champion of supporting the arts in her region, she has lent her skills to further the work of several art organizations. She serves as a curator at the Bruce S. Kershner Gallery in Fairfield, the Artists Collective of Westport, the Surface Design Artists of CT, and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, as well as an associate member of the Nest in Bridgeport.

Art/Place is a non-profit, artist-run gallery. It has been in existence for more than 35 years and features a new show by one or two members every month and several group shows a year. Receptions include free refreshments and a chance to meet the artists in the show.
