Fairfielder John Farkas Passes, Age 101

Fairfield, CT -- John Joseph Farkas, age 101, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 57 years to the late Helen T. Karafa Farkas, entered into eternal life on Monday, November 21, 2016.

John was born on September 25, 1915 in Hungary and was very proud of his Hungarian heritage. John was in the United States Navy during World War II and stationed at Casco Bay, Maine and The Puget Sound, Washington. He also played baseball for the Navy.

John worked at Jenkins Valve in Bridgeport as a welder for many years before the war and then returned to work there until his retirement. He was a member of the Western Jacksons Sports Club in the West End of Bridgeport, having played on their baseball team and participated in many of their activities. 

John loved his garden and grew many herbs and vegetables that he shared with family and his neighbors on Eastlawn Street in Fairfield. He was also a member of the Daytime Lodge 144 AF & AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Stratford. Most of all, John loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and spending time with them at picnics, holidays, summers, sporting events, and took pleasure in reading.

John's memory will lovingly be remembered by his three children, Evelyn A. Anderson, and her husband, Robert, of Fairfield, Jack J.S. Farkas, and his wife, Claudia, of Seymour, and Edward A. Farkas, and his wife, Pam, of Placerville, CA; his grandchildren, John R. Anderson, of NYC, Eric G. Anderson, and his wife, Elaine, of Fairfield, Susan R. Breiner, and her husband, David, of Stratford, Virginia R. Callanan, and her husband, Ronnie, of Canton, GA, Elizabeth M. Brayshaw, and her husband, Robert, of Rockfall, CT, Stephanie T. Gold, and her husband, Louis, of Meriden, CT, and Sara J. Elder, and her husband, Michael, of Diamond Springs, CA; his fourteen great-grandchildren, Tommy, Ben and Matthew Anderson, Timmy and Peter Breiner, Gavin, Finnigan and Fiona Callanan, Eleanor and Emiline Brayshaw, Abigail and Andrew Gold, and Ethan and Calista Elder; and many nieces and nephews.

John was a longtime parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. His funeral took place there on Friday, November 25, 2016 with his grandson, Fr. John R. Anderson officiating. Burial followed at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. John's family would like to thank the staff on the Windsor Wing at Carolton Convalescent Home in Fairfield for their friendship and care over the past seven and three quarter years he spent there.
