Boy Scout Troop 82 Presents the Colors at Red Sox Game

Fairfield, CT - Last month, Fairfield Boy Scout Troop 82, under the leadership of longtime Scoutmaster Bryan LeClerc, had the honor of presenting the American and Connecticut flags on the field during the National Anthem before a nationally televised game at Fenway Park in Boston, MA.

LeClerc received a call from the Red Sox organization in July asking if Troop 82 would represent the state at Connecticut Day at Fenway Park.Troop 82 immediately accepted, and seven young men from the Troop were selected to attend.

According to LeClerc, “It was a tremendous honor to represent our Town and the entire State of Connecticut in Boston, and a once-in-a lifetime experience for the boys.”

After arriving in Boston, the Scouts were escorted into Fenway Park and onto the field by home plate to watch the warm ups.

Once game time arrived, Troop 82 marched to center field and stood at attention while the National Anthem was sung. The cheers from the fans was deafening after the singing, and the Troop marched off by the legendary Green Monster.

LeClerc noted that the Red Sox provided seats for the Scouts to watch the game a few rows back from home plate, as well as gave each Scout a bag of infield dirt as a souvenir.

“It was a night that none of us will ever forget, and an incredible experience.”

Troop 82 has been an active Boy Scout Troop since the 1920's at The First Church Congregational in Fairfield, Connecticut, where it meets every Thursday evening. Troop 82 believes in learning while having fun. Scouts learn to be better American citizens, to develop the mental and physical skills needed for growth, and to follow a set of Scouting principles which build character and nurture personal values.
