Pequot Library's Annual Art Show Delivers Weeklong Celebration

Southport, CT – WET PAINT: Art Fresh from the Studio, which is juried by Bob Burns, director of the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT, is Pequot Library's 21st Annual Art Show — and it's sure to be a spectacular one. The exhibition will feature select and current works — painting, photography, mixed media, works on paper, drawing, multimedia, and sculpture — by local and regional artists. It opens with a Preview Party fundraiser on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. Proceeds from sales will be shared by the artists and Pequot Library. This exhibition and sale support the educational programs and events at Pequot Library and is on view October 14-21 during Library hours.
 
In honor of 21 years, Pequot hosts a 21 Under 21: Youth Art Show juried by Árpád Krizsán, winner of Pequot Library’s 20th Annual Art Show. The opening reception is Wednesday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. Come meet and support the young artists.
 
Be sure to return more than once during the weeklong celebration of the arts to experience art show-related programming and events. Each event is free and open to the public, unless a materials cost is indicated. Registration is recommended for each program. 
 
Take a Southport Historic Walking Tour led by docent Mike Brennan on Sunday, October 14 at 12:30 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. enjoy Sherry in the Stacks with Marsha Malinowski, a rare books and manuscript dealer, and discover the fascinating world of rare book collecting.
 
Discuss the novel The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova at the Off the Wall Book Club on October 17 at 7:00 p.m. with Chief Librarian Christine Catallo. The book tells the story of troubled artist Robert Oliver and the power of art to inspire obsession and hope. The following evening Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. immerse yourself in creative fun at Sip and Paint, led by Fairfield Warde High School art teacher Julianne Warfield. Tickets are $35. Registration is required. 
 
Children ages 8-14 can Create Your Own Graphic Novel on Saturday, October 20 from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. students will discover the building blocks of a graphic novel: storytelling, character study, drawing, composition and layout and leave the workshop with at least one polished short-form comic or a long-form piece complete with a script and a visual rough draft. $10 supply fee. Registration required.
 
Wrap up the amazing week of art at the Artists and Collectors Party on Sunday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. Artists and collectors meet one another and network during a closing reception, with a generous donation of pizza by Pequot Library sponsor Garelick & Herbs.
