FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Rocco & Associates Wealth Management, Inc. (roccoandassociates.com) has announced that the 2nd Annual Fairfield Police Sunset 5k was another huge success, exceeding all fund raising expectations. The race was held on Wednesday, July 24th at Penfield Beach and also co-sponsored by the firm's affiliate, Moneco Advisors. This charity event seeked to raise funds and awareness for two town run agencies, the Fairfield Police Department (specifically the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Fund) and the Friends ("the Friends") of the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities (a 501(c) (3) nonprofit volunteer organization).
The Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 and benefits the children of Fairfield Police Officers. Each year, scholarships are awarded to the children of current Fairfield Police Officers. In addition, the Fairfield High School Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships annually to graduating Fairfield High School seniors who plan to pursue a career in law enforcement or are the children of a Police Officer.
The mission of "the Friends" is to provide funding for enhancements to the programs, services and facilities of the Senior Center of Fairfield. 100% of all proceeds will be divided equally between the two charities.
The race also included a one mile walk and Kids & Cops Scamper. Following the race over 900 runners and guests were treated to a food truck rodeo that included Colony Grill, M&M Steaks, Taco Loco, along with refreshments provided by Sierra Nevada. There were games, balloon twisting and a host of promotional items being distributed by the numerous sponsors.
"The outreach and participation we received again from the community at large, along with sponsorship, was just simply incredible," said Lieutenant Keith Broderick of the Fairfield Police Department. "This truly was a hyper local event with an overwhelming majority of runners and their families hailing from Fairfield."
After backing out expenses for the race production, shirts, vendors and marketing, the net proceeds that were split between the two benefactors was $27,000, an increase of over $5,000 from the total that was raised last year.
"Although we set the bar quite high to top last year's efforts, this year we increased the amount of food vendors and more strategically set up the parking lot at Penfield to ensure all attendees were treated to a great race and an enjoyable after party," said Eric Johnson, COO of Rocco & Associates, the presenting sponsor of the event. "The effective coordination and support from the Park & Recreation Department, Fairfield Police, Fairfield Fire along with Public Works, only reiterated that this truly was a combined community effort, "said Johnson.
The idea for the race was inspired by Lieutenant Keith Broderick and Eric Johnson. Based on the overwhelming support and continued success of the event for the second year, the team has already secured Wednesday, July 22nd 2020 to do it again, with hopes of building on the momentum and the support from the town, sponsors and runners. The team is also planning on running registration, social media and sponsorship promotions throughout the holiday season. To stay abreast of announcements and other details, log onto fpdcops.com/5k.
"Our firm has been giving back to the community we have been so fortunate enough to operate in for over 40 years," said Charlie Rocco, President & CEO. "Our exposure at the event was terrific, but seeing all of the runners enjoying an active night at the beach with friends and family coming to together to benefit two town agencies, was really just something special for us to participate in," said Rocco.
