Consultant Liz Waltzman Talks College Planning in Weston, April 17

WESTON, Conn. -- Spring has arrived and with it comes college planning for many area high schoolers. Westonite and Common Application Consultant and Essay Coach Liz Waltzman of Write Ahead College, LLC will provide spot-on tips on this process for rising sophomores, juniors, seniors and their parents. Her free college planning information session, "Common Sense for the Common Application", will take place on Tuesday, April 17 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm at Norfield Church Parish Hall, 64 Norfield Road, Weston. Those from neighboring towns are also welcome and light refreshments will be served. Sign ups are preferred, though walk ins are welcome. To reserve a spot, e-mail writeaheadcollege@gmail.com or complete the online contact form at www.writeaheadcollege.com

Waltzman founded Write Ahead College in 2013 and guides college bound teens in both Westchester and Fairfield Counties in person or via FaceTime. She has since expanded her staff to include Application Support Specialist, Margaret Buddenhagen. Buddenhagen, who holds a BS in Education from Boston University and served for two years in Weston High’s College and Career Counseling Department, will be presenting with Waltzman. Meg Sullivan will be joining as a College Consultant for students who do not attend Weston High School. She holds a Masters in School Counseling from Fairfield University and has been a Counselor in the Weston Public School system for thirteen years.

Waltzman and her team assist students with college selection, essay coaching, and application support. Waltzman spearheads the essay aspect, guiding students through brainstorming, composing and editing personal statements, supplemental essays and all other application writing. Waltzman recognizes a student's story and voice are paramount, and ensures both are prominent.

"Liz was instrumental with my daughter's Early Decision acceptance; she helped her hone her essay by tightening up vocabulary, correcting punctuation and keeping within the word count while retaining the intended tone and message. Liz also gave insightful advice and assisted with supplemental essays. She's a pro,” said client, Carrie Shea.

Waltzman holds Masters in Art History, Education and Library Science and is a Scarsdale High School librarian with experience twenty-five years strong. Among her vast responsibilities, she most enjoys helping students formulate, research and organize ideas, and often proofreads essays and research papers. These aspects of her position prompted her to launch Write Ahead College to help students thrive during the often overwhelming task of applying to colleges.

"Reducing Common Application and personal essay stress is my main objective. I work with clients at any stage -- focusing on the creative and technical aspects of the writing process, providing guidance on the personal statement, supplemental essays and activities section. It's such rewarding work; I look forward to providing guidance at the Weston April 17 information session and beyond," said Waltzman.

"Common Sense for the Common Application" is geared to provide timely, relevant information that helps prepare teenagers for their college journey. For additional details, or to contact Liz Waltzman directly, visit www.writeaheadcollege.com.
