Andrew Martin’s Eagle Project: Building Hope, One Shelf at a Time

Fairfield, CT - BSA Troop 90 of Greenfield Hill in Fairfield is pleased to announce the latest Scout to achieve the rank of Eagle, Andrew Martin!

Troop 90 has been a chartered Troop of Scouts of America since 1938 and counts over 100 of its Scouts having achieved the rank of Eagle. The Troop is sponsored by Greenfield Hill Congregational Church and is part of the Pomperaug District, Connecticut Yankee Council. Fewer than six percent of Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle, Scouting’s highest rank.

Andrew continued with Scouting in Fairfield after moving from Vermont and made his mark as a leader in Troop 90 through his devotion to community service and as Senior Patrol Leader; he has also been active in Venturing.

For his Eagle project, Andrew reached out to Operation Hope. Operation Hope’s programs and services focus on eliminating hunger and homelessness and are designed to help people solve their crises and build stability in an environment in which compassion inspires dignity and hope. To that end, Operation Hope’s Food Pantry provides over 123,000 meals a year to neighbors in need. Each month the organization provides food to more than 200 families, including 100 children.

Andrew realized that space was critical for the Pantry and there was an opportunity to help maximize that space by creating shelving. He set to work with other BSA Troop 90 Scouts and volunteers to build shelves for future storage.

“Andrew’s achievement as Eagle is the capstone of the Martin family’s tremendous contribution to the program, including older brother Christian’s ascent to Eagle and devoted adult leadership by parents Ed and Lori,” said Dave Walker, BSA Troop 90 Committee Chair. “Congratulations and many thanks to the entire Martin family!”

Andrew will celebrate his achievement with an Eagle Court of Honor later this year.
