Creativity Connects Fairfield: Meet Jasmine Zinser

Creativity Connects Fairfield

What fuels a vibrant, connected, and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Fairfield?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Fairfield.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Jasmine Zinser, psychotherapist and Fairfield County Mom contributor.

Any place in town where you go for inspiration and creativity?

Is it very cliche to say the beach? Specifically, South Pine Creek Beach. I love it because I’m overcome with a quiet and private feeling when I’m there. It's so beautiful to walk to the rock cluster at the far end of the beach.  My children love finding crabs and wandering in the very low tide looking for treasures. Having grown up on the shoreline in Connecticut, I'm so happy to be able to share that experience with them. I'm inspired by both the beauty of the beach and my children's creativity; digging trenches or building volcanos and then decorating them with shells and creatures from the beach.

Is there an organization in town that makes you feel good?

There are many I'm sure, but the first one that comes to mind is CT Dance School. It's a non-profit and it offers scholarships and financial aid to students in need. They have a program called Dance 4 All Abilities for children with physical disabilities and learning challenges.  My oldest daughter has been dancing there for three years. Their performance of The Nutcracker at The Quick Center at Fairfield University every year is something that we all look forward to. Additionally, I love that they are a serious ballet school and are focused on emotional, as well as physical growth.

How does creativity connect you to Fairfield?

I'm always amazed at how much Fairfield has to offer in terms of the visual and performing arts (Fairfield Theater Company, Hands on Pottery, The Studio, AR Workshop, etc...). I come from a very creative family and have a performance background, but I'm lacking in the area of handicrafts. There are so many places to go for individuals and families to hone your creative talents (or deficits)! My creative outlet in Fairfield is writing for Fairfield County Mom. It's been an opportunity to use my brain in a different way; separate from my role as a psychotherapist or as a mom. It helps to feed my sense of self. This is no easy task considering I have very little time to myself, especially now! I'm grateful for the opportunity for self expression and for the sense of community that the blog provides.
