Creativity Connects Fairfield: Meet Molly Rigney

Creativity Connects Fairfield

What fuels a vibrant, connected, and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Fairfield?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good. Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Fairfield.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Fairfield native, Connecticut Dance School alum, and fifth-grade teacher, Molly Rigney.

Any place in town where you go for inspiration and creativity?

Fairfield is a beautiful town with many places to explore! One of my favorite hobbies is photography. As a photographer, I love walking around downtown photographing the different sites and historic buildings. One of my favorite places to visit is the beach. There is something intriguing about the calmness and excitement that the ocean brings. The best days are spent relaxing with my family and having photoshoots as the sun begins to set.

Is there an organization town that makes you feel good?

The place I always visit when I come home to Fairfield is Connecticut Dance School (CDS). It is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the highest quality dance instruction to the communities it serves. To me, this is more than a dance studio, it’s my home. The teachers and faculty at CDS have created a warm environment that welcomes students from all backgrounds and abilities. What excites me most about Connecticut Dance School is their dedication to growing the whole dancer. They have created a safe environment that allows students to grow both emotionally and physically. As a shy, nervous student, CDS provided many opportunities for me to grow my confidence both in classes and performances. Most importantly, everyone at CDS is a family. Over my 15 years of dancing with the school, I have created friendships that will last a lifetime.

How does creativity connect you to Fairfield?

Presently I teach fifth grade. For the past seven summers, I have had the great pleasure of teaching art to CDS students as part of their Summer Dance Program. I have brought the experiences and lessons I learned as both a dancer and teacher at Connecticut Dance School into my fifth-grade classroom. Watching the teachers at CDS create such a welcoming environment for their students inspired me to become a teacher.  My goal as a teacher is to create a space that allows each of my students to feel loved and supported the same way I felt loved and supported as a student.
