Fairfield Mom & Daughter Volunteers Honored at CFJ

Bridgeport, CT—The Center for Family Justice recently honored a Fairfield mother and daughter for the outstanding volunteer service to the nonprofit which provides free, confidential crisis and supportive services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in six local communities.

Fairfield residents Deb and Casey Dies were presented with CFJ’s Beatrice Boucher Volunteer of the Year Award on June 30th at the nonprofit’s annual meeting, held at Wolfe Parke in Monroe.

The award is named for the late Beatrice Boucher of Trumbull, who was a beloved and dedicated CFJ volunteer until the time of her passing.

Deb and Casey first began volunteering for CFJ several years ago as members of the Fairfield chapter of the National Charity League, a nonprofit which engages mothers and daughters in acts of service and philanthropy.

While their relationship with NCL formally ended when Casey graduated from high school last year, they mother and daughter have remained committed to supporting CFJ as volunteers. Together they have volunteered at CFJ’s annual Golf Classic, Halloween Boo Bash and annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.

Casey, now a rising sophomore at Cornell University, has also been a dedicated volunteer supporting CFJ’s Elizabeth M. Pfriem Camp HOPE America-Bridgeport program, a summer camp and year-long mentoring program for youth ages 7-17 who have experienced the trauma of domestic and sexual violence.

Deb was a founding member of CFJ’s Circle of HOPE task force, which worked to strengthen and expand volunteer engagement at the Bridgeport-based nonprofit.  Recently, she worked on a remote research project for the organization during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“When we were deciding on a deserving volunteer to honor this year, we loved the idea celebrating a mother and daughter who worked together to support our mission,” said Debra A. Greenwood, President & CEO of The Center for Family Justice. “Deb and Casey are so valued and appreciated by the CFJ for their professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm for our work. They are the epitome of rock star volunteers, and we are so excited to celebrate them.”

Last year, CFJ provided crisis and supportive services to more than 4,300 victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence from the communities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull.
