Saugatuck Rowing Club & Boathouse Restaurant Open House: June 1

Westport, CT - On Saturday, June 1, all are invited to explore the beautiful facility that houses the Saugatuck Rowing Club’s world class rowing and fitness centers, as well as their highly acclaimed riverfront restaurant.

The all-day event aims to do away with the notion that the sport of rowing is highly exclusive. Members range in ages from teenager to octogenarian; embracing the young athlete, the seasoned rower, the young professional and the empty nester looking for a state of the art boutique fitness center. Whether one’s goals are to start a fitness regime or take their current one to the next level, SRC offers something for everyone at competitive pricing.“We welcome you to join us at our first Open House on June 1st from 10:00AM to 1:00PM, and brunch will be available from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.

Saugatuck Rowing Club prides itself on offering a state-of-the-art fitness center, an exquisite fine dining restaurant and a nationally known rowing program all under one roof. Our personal trainers and fitness instructors have mastered leading clients of all ages and fitness levels to meet and exceed their personal goals. The Saugatuck name carries throughout the United States as our coaches have developed a world class training program. Children and adults start as beginners and can continue rowing recreationally or racing under the SRC name to carry on our legacy.

The newly redecorated Boathouse restaurant offers fine waterfront dining and is now open for brunch on Sundays. Chef Paul has developed an incredible menu that is always executed to perfection,” shares Sarah Connelly, General Manager. Because of its breathtaking setting and stunning decor, The Saugatuck Rowing Club and Boathouse Restaurant continues to be popular destination for Weddings, Rehearsal Dinners and Showers, to Birthdays and Mitzvahs and Corporate events.

Community is especially important to the Saugatuck Rowing Club, having formed partnerships with Embody Fitness, Earthplace, Southern Tide, A Splash of Pink, Fleisher’s Craft Butchery, DownUnder, Harbor Watch and most recently, The Westport Farmer’s Market.Several of these partners will be on hand for the Open House. Embody Fitness will create a special “Boathouse” smoothie, and local Asylum Distillery will be upstairs at The Boathouse bar, serving up samples of “Saugy Marys,” a playful take on the Bloody Mary made with Asylum's own Celery Vodka. Plans for other local partners are currently in the works. Additionally, there are many raffles to be won including a private rowing lesson, a 1 month club membership and dinner for two at the restaurant.

The talented pool of coaches and instructors will be on hand to answer any questions and the facility will be set up to accommodate those who want to try classes, equipment, and learn about some of the many programs offered including: Personal Training, Studio Row, Barre, Pilates, Yoga, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) programs and more. About the Saugatuck Rowing ClubFounded in 1990 by Coach James Mangan, the Saugatuck Rowing Club today is the realization of his vision, shared by Dr. Howard Winklevoss, Club Proprietor, whose twin sons learned to row at SRC under Mangan’s tutelage. A former oarsman with the Garda Siochana Rowing Club in Dublin, Ireland, Mangan came to the United States to coach crew at Fordham University for three years, all the while nurturing his dream of starting a rowing club that would make the sport more accessible to people of all ages.

The club has since grown exponentially. Junior programs, for kids from twelve to eighteen brought in new generations of rowers. Novice programs introduced rowing to men and women of every age, including senior rowers. All learned to revel in the challenge and camaraderie of rowing. Mangan’s dream was to insure that, at least in the Westport area, anyone who wanted to row had the opportunity.

The rowing programs now accommodate an ever-increasing population of rowers (both newcomers and experienced oarspeople alike) including National Master’s Championships and U.S. Junior National Team selectees as accomplishments. The club’s fitness center has also expanded, catering to the interests and needs of non-rowers as well as rowers.

The Saugatuck Rowing Club has become a hub for residents of both Fairfield and Westchester Counties, either pursuing their athletic dreams or taking advantage of the tremendous resources that it offers.
