William Sanders Double Winner in MJP Fairfield Road Races

Fairfield, CT: Marlborough’s William Sanders won both the MJP Fairfield Half Marathon and 5K this weekend.  On Saturday, Sanders won the 5K in 15:23 finishing comfortably ahead of Tolland’s Jacob Gerow. On Sunday, Sanders won the ½ marathon in 69:45 easily besting Fairfield’s Joseph Walweski who finished in 74:23.  Over 2,500 runners participated in the weekend’s races held at Fairfield’s Jennings Beach.

Ethiopia’s Hirut Guangul had the weekend’s top performance winning the women’s half marathon in 76:26.  Guangul finished 3rd overall in the half marathon and finished nearly 6 minutes ahead of Springfield’s Anna Steiman (82:11). 

On Saturday, Milford’s Carrie Bova was the top female 5K finisher in 19:34.  Bova was followed closely by Sybil Sanders, wife of William Sanders, in 19:40.  Fairfield’s Jack Flynn won the Lil’ Stags ½ Mile Kids Run in 2:49.  Fairfield’s Madison Vendig was the first girl to finish in 3:04.

The MJP Wealth Advisors Fairfield Road Race is hosted by the Fairfield Fire Fighters and Fire Department.
