Over 2K Runners to Participate in Sunday's Branford Road Race

Branford, CT: The 42nd Annual Branford Road Race is back on the Branford Green this Father’s Day.  Top runners are joining over 2,000 participants to compete for Connecticut’s 5-Mile State Championship. The event includes the 5 Mile Race, 2 Mile Health Walk and 1 Mile Read to Grow Family Fun Run.

The Branford Road Race is one of Connecticut’s top races.  Hartford’s Sara-Caitrin Mendelburg and Nancy Montmerlo and Mystic’s Christopher Helminski are expected to challenge for the top spot. Helminski finished 2nd in last year’s Branford Road Race.  Also competing for the 5-mile title is Connecticut’s fastest running couple, William and Sybil Sanders of Marlborough. Both have finished in the top three a number of times in Branford.

This year’s event features the Medtronic Parkinson’s Welcome Tent where attendees can meet with Parkinson's specialists, Dr. Duarte Goncalves Machado and Dr. Joy Antonelle de Marcaida. Families impacted by Parkinson’s Disease are offered a complimentary breakfast hosted by the Hartford HealthCare David & Rhoda Chase Family Movement Disorders Center.  The post-race celebration on the green includes a brunch for all participants and awards ceremony. New and gently used children’s books will be collected at the Read to Grow Book Mobile for distribution to local children and families.  Visit branfordroadrace.net to learn more about our signature charities.
