Vertigo Dance Returns to the Quick Center, Jan. 18

Fairfield, CT - At 8 p.m. on January 18, Vertigo Dance Company will perform their new work, Pardes at Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Vertigo is a modern dance company based in Israel, established by social and community-minded dancers Noa Wertheim and Adi Sha'al.

Vertigo Dance Company combines performances, master classes, workshops, and co-productions with international companies and other artists from different fields to create lively art. Their internationally acclaimed work offers a physical meeting place for artists and audiences to be moved through the language of the body. Vertigo takes the viewer to unexpected and challenging journeys with every performance.

Pardes, choreographed by Noa Wertheim and Rina Wertheim-Koren, is a work of art in which the body connects to its inner spiritual layers, the insides of each human being and dancer. Throughout their performance of Pardes, the dancers face the duality of their lives between the person and the universal – the tensions they experience between their individual needs and the demands of society.

The music for Pardes was created by international percussion artist Itamar Doari. The soundtrack was interwoven into the process of creating the choreography and was recorded in real time in the studio. This granted the dancers the opportunity to work with one of the most important and prominent percussion artists in Israel.

Lori Jones, director of programming and audience development said, “Vertigo’s U.S. tour of Pardes is only two stops — the Baryshnikov Arts Center (N.Y.C.) and the Quick — so we are honored to welcome them back on our stage and we are pleased to present Pardes, which has received great acclaim on its international tour.”

Vertigo Dance Company members live and create art at the Vertigo Ecological Village, a village that once housed chicken coops but has now developed into an artists’ colony representing the ideologies of art, society, and the environment. The village today has become a vibrant center where people come from Israel and around the world to see, work, and experience the company’s unique model.

“This company truly honors space with powerful, stunning dance, and a rich knowledge of how environmentalism and art work together,” said Jones. “Our educational programs with local schools will benefit from experiencing this acclaimed company.”

Vertigo Dance will perform at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Support is provided, in part, by the Consulate General of Israel to New England. Tickets are on sale now at quickcenter.com for $30 | $20 for Quick Members. Tickets are also available by contacting the Quick Center Box Office at 203-254-4010, Monday through Friday, from 12 to 5 p.m.
