Fairfield's BSA Troop 90 Recognizes Three New Eagle Scouts

Fairfield, CT - On Sunday, April 23, BSA Troop 90 celebrated the highest recognition that Scouting offers for three of its scouts at an Eagle Court of Honor: Andrew Jeffrey Rhoades, Andrew Patrick Cimmino and Thomas Paul Nardone.

The awarding of the Eagle Scout Badge recognizes the completion of a strict set of requirements. This is a goal for which a Scout works many years. It does not come easily. It is the culmination of the efforts of the Scout, together with his leaders, fellow scouts, family, friends and members of the community. The Eagle Award is the highest rank in Scouting, the last major step in advancement. Only 6% of all Scouts in the United States reach the Eagle Rank.

The wearer of the Eagle Badge epitomizes Scouting’s best. These scouts are trained in an understanding of citizenship and the importance of law, demonstrated duty to God and to Country, and appeared before an Eagle Board of Review made up of prominent persons whose job it was to judge their credentials.

Part of the requirement to achieve the Eagle Badge is a community outreach project. Andrew Rhoades’ Eagle Scout Service Project was undertaken at Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport to benefit the veteran’s housed at the Home. Vince Santilli, CEO/Executive Director of Homes for the Brave, shared his heartful thanks and congratulations at the Court of Honor. Andrew Cimmino’s Eagle Project was undertaken at St. Charles Parish in Bridgeport to benefit their youth group and Thomas Nardone’s Eagle Project benefited the children served by the Bridgeport Rescue mission.

Achieving this award would not be possible without the assistance of the Scoutmasters, Troop Leaders, fellow Scouts, parents, family, friends, and members of the community. In addition to Scouts, family, and friends, several government representatives were present to commemorate the occasion, including Town of Fairfield First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick; the Honorable Kathleen Maxham; State Representative Laura Devlin; State Representative Cristin McCarthy-Vahey; and State Senator Tony Hwang.

Eagle Scout Coordinator David Walker led the ceremony and Unit Commissioner and Scoutmaster Emeritus David Nobile gave the official Eagle Charge to each Scout, awarding them a plaque and working with Senator Richard Blumenthal's office to have flags flown over the Capitol in honor of their achievement. Gabriel Zayas, Pomperaug District Chair for the CT Yankee Council, also congratulated the Scouts.

"It was a very special day for the Cimmino, Nardone, and Rhoades families and for Troop 90," said Daniela Rhoades, Troop 90 Committee Chair. "We were able to gather and celebrate the accomplishments of Andrew, Andrew and Thomas and, by extension, of Troop 90 as well. Thank you to everyone—families, friends, current Troop 90 families and legacy Troop 90 families—who came out in support of our newest Eagle Scouts and made this a wonderful day. Congratulations to Andrew, Thomas and Andrew! We are very proud of you!"
