Want to play golf in college? Golf Performance Center's Dennis Hillman shares expertise with Golf Digest

Golf Performance Center, located at 824 Ethan Allen Highway in Ridgefield, was recently featured in the October/November issue of Golf Digest.

Titled “What to say, and not, when contacting college golf coaches. And other best practices for applying” the article breaks down what you need to know about college golf including the recruitment process and finding the collegiate experience that is the best fit for you.

One of the country’s most acclaimed and respected golf academies and collegiate golf programs happens to be right here in Fairfield County.

GPC Director of Player Development and All-American college golfer at University of Tulsa Dennis Hillman tells author Sam Weinman, that colleges “want kids who are shooting a couple of strokes lower than their fifth player.” He adds, “They’re trying to improve their program.”

The coveted act of being recruited to play golf in college is not just about what you’ve accomplished thus far as a golfer, but where you are headed according to Hillman who is quoted as saying, “A ton of kids can play, so they’re looking for intangibles. What kind of teammate will you be? How do you handle adversity? Are you a quitter or a fighter? How are you going to represent the school? You can show a lot of this through effort and communication.
